Description:
CSREES requests applications for the Food and Agricultural Sciences National Needs Graduate Fellowships Grants Program - Special International Study or Thesis/Dissertation Research Travel Allowances (Fellowships-IRTA) for fiscal year (FY) 2005 to provide support for USDA Fellows to conduct thesis/dissertation research or to undertake studies at a site outside of the United States.
USDA initiated the Food and Agricultural Sciences National Needs Graduate and Postdoctoral Fellowship Grants Program in FY 1994. The fellowships are to ensure the availability of highly trained personnel, including groups underrepresented in the Food and Agricultural Sciences, capable of satisfying the human capital needs in critical areas that include agricultural systems and multidisciplinary programs; molecular biology; human nutrition; food and family sciences; environmental sciences and natural resources. At the same time, the Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service (CSREES) offers to secure diversity in the human resource base by presenting opportunities for capable USDA Fellows to pursue experiential learning through research and travel awards that will contribute to the progress of the USDA Fellow toward an advanced degree, during their graduate study. USDA Fellows are expected to contribute significantly in meeting the national needs for highly qualified scientists and professionals in the Food and Agricultural Sciences and the proposed activities should contribute to the progress toward an advanced degree.
